Impending papal smackdown sends strong warning to Satan

"Thanks be to God, we have a Pope who has decided to fight the Devil head-on," says Father Gabriele Amorth, on Pope Benedict XVI's recent order to bishops to drastically increase the number of qualified exorcists in dioceses worldwide.

Apparently, God is still busy breaking up the row between the priests in Bethlehem, so the vicar of Christ will pick up the slack by keeping that pesky Beelzebub at bay with roving "exorcism squads." So I guess that's good. Still, as I read this story and the accompanying photos, I couldn't help but think...

Who would I rather meet in a dark alley? One who comes as an angel of light? Or a snarling german on a throne waving a dangling dead Jesus-on-a-stick?

I dunno, man...

Dorse I'm so glad you've got a line in to the Vatican. Please let me know if you happen to see my name on the list!

Sometimes religion just strikes me as incredibly weird. I mean... just look at that picture of the pope!

Kc, I'm surprised you haven't gotten a call. Your name is at the top of the recruiter's list. Dust off your black trenchcoat, my man. You're on a mission from God.

Mark, I'm with you. That guy had style. And he didn't look like he wanted to hurt you, like this guy does.

I don't remember the Hat looking so funny on John Paul. Did the new pope* decide he needed a bigger one?

Talk about compensating!

*He already has the dark, shadowy eyes and all, but a little black eyeliner, and he would look positively ghoulish.

As easy a target as Catholics can be to we protest-ants, I do appreciate this Pope's renewed focus on the spiritual battle that is at the root of much of the cultural decline.

That and Western Churches...of which he is the head of the largest one...but that's another issue...kind of...

I had a new baby girl (or rather... my wife did) the night you wrote this (so I missed it). But I have got to say this is some funny stuff!!!

I have a friend who always says that the Pope is like a mobster. "He went from Joey Rats to Bennie 16". Just thought you might like that.

With all due (dis)respect, the church has become the domain of too many specialists. Each does his/her thing and the rest of us are the audience. We buy our tickets (tithes and offerings, but especially the OFFERINGS), and wait to be "serviced" according to our personal needs/requirements.
The BOSS (JC) sent ALL of us to do ALL the stuff needed.
HE also said He would be with us to provide the Juice to get the job done. So long as we allow others to do the work, we also allow them to set the program parameters. Herr Pope is only doing what he thinks is to be done.
He is only a small part of the problem; the rest of us who let him (and others like him) "lead" us like the dumb sheep we prefer to be, WE bear the ultimate guilt of the church.
Maybe we should think that Jesus and I can do what is necessary!

They all look mean - Popes, Rabbis, Mullahs, Patriarchs..whatever. Must come from all the religious political infighting. Better to be a religious peasant than a prince of the church/mosque/schul.
